Note: The timing of this dance does not allow for the Honouring and Leading forward and back. Those would have been done during the introduction.

Note #2: This dance has been interpreted differently by modern Country Dance sources, but those interpretations rely upon changes to the original, such as turns and Turn Singles. Given that Playford’s first instructions for this dance are to “cross over with the 2nd Couple” rather than below the 2nd Couple, the steps below fit closest to the original.

A1 1-4: 1st Couple cross through the 2nd Couple into the 2nd place while the 2nd Couple crosses up into the 1st place.
A1 5-8: Then go back to back with your Partner.

A2 1-4: 1st Man go back to back with the 2nd Woman.
A2 5-8: 2nd Man go back to back with the 1st Woman.

B1 1-2: 1st Man take the 2nd Woman by your left hand and lead her up a Double to the Presence, the 2nd Man leading the 1st Woman down a Double by his right hand.
B1 3-4: Still holding hands, 1st Man and 2nd Woman turn together to face down, the other two doing the same to face up.
B1 5-6: All lead a Double toward the other two.
B1 7-8: The two Men change places with each other.

B2 1-8: Hands right and left four passes, beginning with your Partner.

Repeat down the line.
