Cobbler’s Jig, The

1679Line
Ed. 6A-18 Duple Minor Longways
G Major AABB adlib

Note: The timing of this dance does not allow for the Honouring and Leading forward and back. Those would have been done during the introduction.

Note #2: The music for this dance only had 7 measures in the B section. Given the timing of the dance and the tendency for misprints, I have followed the example of Jeremy Barlow and Peter Alan Munstedt in adding one measure as indicated in parentheses.

Note #3: “Act the Cobbler” probably has something to do with making shoes, possibly using a small hammer to nail a sole onto a shoe.

A1 1-4: 1st Couple Side Right.

A2 1-4: 1st Couple Side Left.

B1 1-2: 1st Couple change places.
B1 3-4: Then “act the cobbler.”
B1 5-8: 1st Couple change places back and “act the cobbler” again.

B2 1-4: 1st Couple cross over and go down behind the 2nd Couple and “act the cobbler” again.
B2 5-8: 1st Couple turn each other once around to end in the 2nd place improper.

Repeat down the line, going down one side and back up the other, the others doing the same, until all are in their original places.
