This list is for dancers and teachers in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). The first edition of Playford’s Dancing Master, published in 1651, is seen as collecting dances that had already been done for quite a while, so the first edition is generally accepted as “period” for the SCA time period. The second edition, published in 1652, mainly corrected mistakes from the first edition, and only added 8 more dances, so it is also accepted as period. Other English Country Dances that came later may certainly be enjoyed in the SCA, but they are regarded as later period.
